The Future is Now

“What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new. Right now.”– Author Unknown

“Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed.” – Wayne Dyer

Woody Allen’s film, Midnight in Paris, is about successful but distracted screen writer Gil Pender (Owen Wilson) who travels to Paris while working on his first novel. While walking alone one night, Gil gets in a car with some friendly strangers and discovers he has been transported back to the 1920s, an era he has long idolized and dreamed about. While there, he encounters and interacts with famous literary icons and artists who help him with his novel and his life. Imagine being a would-be novelist and coming face-to-face with Steinbeck and F. Scott Fitzgerald who happily read and critique your work and steer you on the right path for your chosen career. The problem is, after several midnight encounters within the “golden past” he has so long dreamed about, Gil finds the chinks in the armor. In other words, as shiny and flawless as Paris in the 20’s has seemed in his imaginings, once there he realizes that this romanticized past and his preoccupation with nostalgia doesn’t actually move him forward in the way he imagined it would. Ironic too is his revelation that some living in the 20’s dream and idolize an even further past, and so on and so on. It is only when he accepts his messy present and uncertain future that he can truly start to steer his life in a positive direction.

Life would be easier … or would it?

How many of you wake up some mornings and wish that time could transport you back before 2005 when Real Estate was selling like hot cakes and nobody even contemplated the recession we just lived through over the past five or six years. If only we could go back to that time, your life would be so much easier and your bank account so much fatter. You’d have no worries and life would be good. Right? Well, it’s true that we live in a messy present, and it’s also true that the future is uncertain, but was your life really perfect back then? Or could it be that you are romanticizing your days gone by, remembering the good and conveniently burying the not so good. If you’re honest with yourself, life is never a piece of cake. It’s true that ten years ago we weren’t living through a recession, but don’t kid yourself. You had day-to-day challenges back then too. You still struggled to find motivated and qualified prospects. You still worked too many hours. You still yearned for a bigger income. The specific nature of your challenges now may be somewhat different, but you know it’s true that you had challenges “then” as well.

Don’t hide behind market conditions

Never mind the fact that a time machine isn’t coming your way any time soon. More to the point is the fact that if you find yourself spending a lot of your time bemoaning how challenging the current market may be for you, and telling yourself that if only things would get better, you’d be on easy street and that in a better market you’d be living high and easy etc. etc., you’re not only lying to yourself, you’re also seriously damaging your opportunity to succeed in this business. Every day I see agents who are doing this very thing – “hiding” behind market conditions (or a host of other things) as an excuse for their own poor performance. Have you heard colleagues who do this? Who tell anyone who will listen that they’re really a star agent who has been victimized by “whatever” and in normal times they’d be selling hundreds of homes a year. In other words, it’s not them it’s their “whatever”. Listen, this is tough to hear, perhaps, but you have to hear it. The agents who are taking full advantage of my systems were not victims of the recession. They didn’t have bad years when other agents were. They wouldn’t jump back to 2005 if given the chance because 2013 is so exciting and profitable and they’re building their businesses with confidence and energy. You have to admit that if so many agents from all walks of life in every market across the country did well during the recession, and are doing well right now, by using my system, then it means that it is completely possible for you to do well in Real Estate right now, regardless of the excuses you’d like to haul out. So if it’s not the market that is to blame for your poor behaviour, who’s to blame? Could it be you?

Could it be your fault?

So what are you going to do about it? Wishing yourself in a different time isn’t the solution. The time to start your future is right now, and the best way to begin is to shed all your excuses and take full responsibility for your going forward. Before you started with my system, you could blame your poor performance on not having the right tools and systems. But now you have them. This may seem harsh, but if you’re not consistently and properly using the proven success tools given to you, you have no one to blame but yourself. P.S. You can test drive my ideas and systems absolutely free by signing up for Free Weekly Training which includes live weekly webinars, a monthly newsletter and priority invitations to free half day training events.
