What is a paradigm?
Imagine you put a glass on your kitchen table and ﬁlled it with all of your thoughts and past experiences. The way you were raised, your mindset, and everything you believe in, would all go into the glass. The contents inside that glass make up your paradigm.
A paradigm is a model or a pattern.
It is a way of seeing and understanding things. It is your understanding of the world, and of the way things are done. Paradigms help us make sense of the world, but they can also hold us back.
When paradigms fail us Most agents -- most people -- never question their paradigm.
Instead, they let it build artiﬁcial walls around them that dwarf their possibilities and opportunities. If you are ambitious (which I’m guessing you are if you’re reading my blog) and you continue following your paradigm in this way, you will inevitably plateau. You will hit a glass ceiling where you can’t climb any higher.
I can tell you from ﬁrst-hand experience that this is paralyzing.
When you hit that plateau, one of three things happens. You either:
The solution outside the paradigm
- Succumb to your old paradigm and give up attempting to break through the glass ceiling.
- Accept that you are limited by your paradigm but keep hoping and praying (and rationalizing) that if you work hard enough, things are bound to get better.
- Change your paradigm and find a better way to do things.
Over my years in the real estate business, I have been stuck in the same rut that most agents ﬁnd themselves in. My original paradigm said that I had to trade my time for money. In other words, if I wanted more money, I had to trade more of my time to get it. And that's exactly what I did, for years, until I hit the glass ceiling.
And when I hit it, I absolutely refused to admit defeat. I refused to believe that there was no way to get to the other side.
Well, here I am today -- on the other side. I chose option number 3 and developed a completely new paradigm to reach new levels of success.
And every day it got easier and easier because the leverage and synergies within my business are vast. I can directly translate this power into your business.
