Have you heard the expression ‘throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks?’ It’s a metaphor for trying out a bunch of things at once, hoping that at least something will work. (It’s also allegedly a method to test if your pasta is done – cooked spaghetti sticks to the wall and undercooked spaghetti does not.) The problem with this strategy, though, is that you lose valuable spaghetti in the process. When it comes to real estate, there is a smarter way to try out different techniques than blindly throwing spaghetti at the wall. You just need to use the four steps of efficient testing: 1. FOCUS on getting more out of what you do. It’s so easy to get caught up working in your business and forget about working on your business. Your goal is to separate the strategies that work from the ones that don’t, and to never lose sight of learning from your successes (and mistakes!) 2. TEST different methods. Every market is different, so testing is a critical part of how we make ourselves wealthy. You never know unless you try! To reduce risk while testing, use small sample sizes – the tinier, the better. Avoid things like six-month commitments on tests. Stay sharp and move if things aren’t working – quickly adapting keeps you nimble. 3. COPY what works. In business, you’re allowed to take (ethical) shortcuts to get on the fast track. Instead of doing things the hard way and testing untried ideas or formats, you can learn from others who did all the hard work for you. There’s no need to re-invent the wheel here. Remember that spaghetti – if you’re testing unproven methods, you may be throwing away valuable time and opportunities. 4. MEASURE your results. Successful agents know their numbers inside and out and have a clear system for evaluating what works. Lead management is all about keeping your measurement tight and repeating only the practices that improve your results. This may feel strange at first, but when members get in and do well with our program, measurement becomes second nature. How can YOU test and learn with our done-for-you materials?
